Getting Started Cooking Crab
Cooking crabs is the best part of crabbing. Now that you've been successful catching crabs, it's time to reap the rewards!
If you are cooking your own catch, you should be using live crabs. Bacteria spreads quickly within dead crabs. One of the best ways to transport live crabs is on ice. By filling a couple ziploc baggies with ice and lining the bottom of a cooler, you'll have the perfect transportation device for live crabs. Because of the low temperatures, the crabs will seem "sleepy" and lethargic. Once you get them home, be ready to get working.
You'll need to decide if you'd like to steam or boil your crabs and have your supplies ready. Once the crabs are cooked, each crab will be cleaned (a.k.a. picked). Once the meat is set aside, you can freeze the meat for a later date or start making one of your favorite recipes.
