Locations for Crabbing

There are many locations on the eastern seaboard for crabbing. Hot spots include Maryland down to Georgia. Blue crabs are found in brackish water within salt marshes, creeks, and estuaries. Blue crabs can also be found in the surf of the ocean.

Crabbing conditions are best when the water is still warm. Crabs are typically inactive when water temperatures are below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Typically, this means crabs are active from April through October.

Obviously, some states further south may have a longer crabbing season than northern states. Each state has it's own hot spots, tips, and recipes. Also, there may be peak seasons depending on your location.

This part of the site will be a great resource for you if you are traveling to other states and planning to do a little recreational crabbing.
